My son, Aaron, who is an avid Kayak fisherman, asked me to help him in designing a stabilizing system for his kayak that would allow him to stand while fishing. Together we have invented a stabilizer system that will make it possible to stand comfortably. First, we searched the Internet. The one feature we looked for was the ability to retract and deploy floats quickly, allowing for the use of paddling and quick re-stabilization. This feature was not found on any of the stabilizer systems that were available. After checking their specs, reading reviews and customer comments, we came up with 5 areas where we could make improvements:

1) Stabilization: Has been improved by making a 6'-6" span between floats that can be adjusted to keep in contact with the water.

2) Strength and Durability: Are increased by use of heavy extruded aluminum channel and strong plastic parts that are fastened together with stainless steel and brass fasteners.

3) Noise Reduction: Accomplished by using a 4-postion depth control adjuster block, to prevent float splash that could scare fish.

4) Ease of Paddling: Possible because of our unique deploying and retracting float system. The hinged float arms can be quickly retracted for easy paddling and maneuvering into tight places, and then quickly re-deployed for stability.

5) Attachment to Kayak: Accomplished by an under-hull strap that is tightened by a built-in ratchet device, making it possible to secure stabilizer on most kayaks in various positions without drilling holes.

By incorporating these 5 improvements, we have successfully developed and manufactured a superior kayak stabilizing system. A modified version of this design works equally well on canoes. We believe these stabilizers are some of the best available on the market today.
